When getting on the freeway, that long ramp is for getting up to freeway speed so you can easily MERGE into the fast-moving traffic. DON'T STOP at the bottom of the ramp and expect all of the traffic to stop and let you in. Believe it or not, your car WILL fit into any gap in the traffic but you need to be up to the speed of the traffic to slide in. If a large truck is in the lane you need, anticipate this beforehand and speed up or let up (do NOT brake) to slide in front or behind the truck.
